Two apps to solve the Kindle conundrum

May 25, 20122 Comments

Though I’ve written an ebook and offered it in Amazon’s Kindle store, I don’t actually own a Kindle device. I’ve never gotten around to buying one, and though I know I’d read a lot more if I did have a Kindle or something similar, the expense hasn’t really ingratiated the product to me. And, anyway, I’m normally writing rather than reading.

One of the problems with ebooks is that you need a device to read them on. Though Kindle’s are obviously popular, a large number of my friends and family just don’t have these devices to hand. This means, that for encouraging sales and getting people I know to buy my book, I’m stymied by the lack of ways in which to read Inside Evil….or so I thought.

Most of my friends have an iPhone. Apple have apparently taken over the world, certainly in my circle of acquaintances, and I come across far more iPhones and iPads than I do Kindles, Nooks and Sony Devices. In the last few weeks, I’ve been accessing people’s work by having them send me PDF files by email, and then saving these documents into my iBooks account for easy reading. Then, last night, I was shown the light. The way of getting Kindle books to read without having to buy a Kindle.

I buy a lot with Amazon’s 1-click option through the Amazon iPhone app. I have discovered that you can download a Kindle app from the iPhone store for free. These two devices work seamlessly together, and if you buy an ebook through your Amazon account, it’s instantly transferred, via the cloud, to your iPhone Kindle app. I still struggle to comprehend how television pictures are sent through the air, into an aerial and appear on your television screen. The fact that I can order an ebook through my iPhone browser and within seconds it’s appeared in my Kindle app….I’m lost beyond words. Still, it works, so I’m not going to give it a huge amount of brain time.

For anyone who has friend’s saying that they’d love to read the book, but that they don’t have a Kindle, this could be an ideal solution. Of course, they’ll have to have an iPhone or iPad instead, but it may solve the problem. I hate sitting in front of my PC reading, I’d rather be in bed with a smaller device. With Apple’s products being backlit for easy reading, you can sit in bed and read away as you would with any other device. And, with these two free apps, you can save £££ on buying a Kindle.
